WHAT ARE MY CHOICES?
When you’re deciding what to
do with your life, the possibilities at first seem limitless. There are hundreds
of occupations to choose from and probably thousands of people you could marry.
You might want to live in sunny California, frigid Alaska, or maybe even settle in
Paris or Rio.
But
even, when you’re happily married, working at your occupation, and living in your
dream home, you will still have to decide what to do with your life. There are
only two real choices – or at the most, three: (1) to live for yourself; (2) to
live for other people – the ones you choose; (3) to live for God.
When you think of all the
mistakes you’ve made so far, and contemplate all the errors you’ve watched others
make, you should have a healthy fear of making your own decisions and “doing your own
thing.” If there is a God who showed himself to the world through His Son Jesus,
and gave us the Bible, there is only ONE logical choice, and that is to live your life
– all of it – for God.
“Choose this day whom ye will serve” (Josh. 24:15).
“And this is eternal life, that they know thee, the
only true God, and Jesus Christ whom thou hast sent” (John 17:3).
“Thus says the Lord: ‘Let not the wise man glory
in his wisdom, let not the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory
in his riches; but let him who glories in this, that he understands and knows me, that
I am the Lord who practice kindness, justice, and righteousness in the earth; for in
these things I delight says the Lord’” (Jer. 9:23,24).
